King Richard Productions was founded in 2022 by writer, director, producer, and actor, Chris Dabney. As one of Hollywood’s up and coming filmmakers, he has produced a wide range of theater and film projects spanning over a 20-year career.
Dabney’s latest film, “Princess Love,” which he wrote, directed, and produced, recently launched into the international film market in 2024. In its first eight weeks, “Princess Love” racked up over 50 festival awards in the categories of “Best Short,” “Best Director,” “Best Producer,” “Best Writer,” “Best Actor,” “Best Actress,” and “Best Original Score.” The film stars Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee, Eric Roberts, and emerging star, Heaven Howard, the daughter of Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee, Terrence Howard. In 2021, Dabney co-executive produced “BabyGirl,” which won over 45 festivals internationally and was acquired by AllBlk.tv in 2022. Other films Dabney has executive produced include “Just Before Sundown” and “Sidney,” which he also wrote and directed.
Dabney’s resume includes over 20 sold-out theater tours across the U.S., producing alongside his business partner of over 20 years, Donald Welch of Don B. Welch Productions. As a producer, Dabney also received two NAACP Theatre Awards nominations for Best Ensemble Cast with “The Bachelorette Party” in 2007 and “The Divorce” in 2008. In 2008, he also wrote, directed, and produced the Hollywood sold-out hit stage production, “Pleasantville,” for which he was recognized as “Playwright of the Year” by the county of Los Angeles.
Dabney’s entertainment career began at Philadelphia’s famous Freedom Theater, a launchpad for famous artists such as James Baldwin, Denzel Washington, August Wilson, and Grover Washington, Jr., to name a few. It was there that he developed his acting skills which would launch him into the role of filmmaker in his later years. During this time he had the opportunity to rack up a few acting credits such as “L.A. Forensics,” “MADtv,” and “The Young & the Restless.”
Dabney has multiple projects in development which he has written and is producing, including the television series, "Pleasantville", "Rainbow Jones", and the features, "Undamaged Goods", “The Planner,” “Cleo,” “Here Lies Albert,” “Black Man Road,” and “The Liberator.”
Dabney graduated Summa Cum Laude from Park University where he holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Psychology. He also graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Governor’s University where he holds a Master of Business Administration.
